Three years after competing without controversy at the Tokyo Olympics, the 25-year-old Imane Khelif found herself embroiled in a sexual identity dispute at the Paris Games, fueled by a conflict between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Boxing Federation. While the International Boxing Federation claimed she failed a gender test, the IOC affirmed her eligibility to compete in women’s bouts. Khelif has since been targeted by a hate campaign on social media, marked by misinformation and racism, facing harsh criticism from world leaders, sport players, major celebrities, and others who accused her of being a man. These include Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and British author J.K. Rowling. On Sunday, 11 August, Khalif's instructed her lawyer to submit a complaint to the Paris prosecutor's office on her behalf.
