Algerian authorities have detained two journalists, Sofiane Ghirous and Ferhat Omar from the news website "Algerie Scoop", for publishing a video that depicted businesswomen protesting their treatment at a government-sponsored event. The video featured women start-up founders accusing the government of "humiliating" them and showing "contempt" during an innovation event organised by the Ministry of Education and Professional Training. Such arrests not only deter other women from protesting and advocating for their rights, but also discourage journalists from covering issues related to women's demands, ultimately contributing to the erasure of women and violations of their rights from public discourse.
