At the end of June, media outlets reported that Algerian security services confiscated over 80 copies of the Quran for sale in bookshops in Biskra as they bore the colours of the LGBTQI+ flag and destroyed them. Photos of the Quran copies were said to have been circulated on social media, provoking anger from the public.
