On 19 September, the Jordanian Parliament approved a new law on child rights. Just before the law was sent to the Senate for approval, article 17 on educational institutions enabling the child, parents or guardian to participate in decisions on the child’s education was amended whereby the word ‘parents’ was replaced with ‘wali’ (which refers to the father or male guardian in Jordanian law).
