On 27 November, Egyptian filmmaker Salma el-Tarzi was handed a fine of 50,000 Egyptian pounds and instructed to pay another 20,000 Egyptian pounds in civil compensation in a case raised against her by film director Islam el-Azazi. El-Tarzi had spoken out in defence of six women who had alleged rape, harassment and sexual assault at the hands of el-Azazi, who subsequently filed a complaint against her.
