July 2021: The government rejected several essential recommendations related to women and LGBTQI rights during Lebanon’s Universal Periodic Review of its human rights record. According to Human Rights Watch, this included “promoting equal rights for men and women, prohibiting discrimination on the basis of gender and sexual orientation and identity, criminalising marital rape, [and] banning child marriage.”
