A candidate running in the 2024 general election has labeled the sexist and misogynistic remarks directed at her online as harassment. Helen Maher, representing the SDLP, revealed that she had been asked for photos of her feet and questioned if her campaign was funded by a website known for sexual content. She condemned the messages and comments as “constant and disgusting.”
This harassment not only undermines women’s immediate participation in politics but also reinforces harmful stereotypes that seek to diminish the legitimacy of women’s voices in public life.
