On 25 June, it was reported that Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian – Lebanon’s leading Sunni cleric – stated that the Sunni authority Dar al-Fatwa ‘would not allow the legalization of homosexuality or civil marriage’ (quoted from L’Orient Today). This statement came shortly after the Interior Minister issued a memo urging security forces to crack down on ‘queer events.’
