The Christian extremist group "Jnoud al-Rab" ("Soldiers of God") targeted a bar hosting a drag queen event in Mar Mikhael, Beirut, on August 23. The newly-formed group verbally and physically assaulted customers, with reports indicating injuries. The attack follows earlier verbal threats from the group. Social media videos show the attackers condemning the venue as promoting homosexuality and issuing warnings. On the same night, Sheikh Hassan Merheb of Dar al-Fatwa, a prominent Sunni Muslim cleric, endorsed the attack, receiving support on social media.
Internal Security Forces agents reportedly did not intervene during the attack, questioning instead the bar owner and guests about the nature of the performance. No arrests have been made in connection to the attack.
