In March, Palestinian women’s groups condemned an online campaign – including verbal violence and threats - targeting the director of Women’s Studies Centre, Sama Aweida. They noted that this was the second time she was being attacked in recent months. According to the WHRD MENA Coalition, the campaign was carried out by Hizb ut-Tahrir (Liberation Party) and hashtags such as #down with_CEDAW and #stop_kidnapping_our_children (roughly translated from Arabic) were being used to incite against Sama and her work advocating for women’s rights.
