During a plenary session on the criminalisation of “conversion therapies”, the far-right party ELAM proposed to amend the bill to exempt priests from performing such acts and facing penalties outlined in the legislation as well as allowing these ‘therapies’ with the consent of the individual. Besides the parliamentary group of AKEL, no other parties have officially expressed opposition to the proposed amendments. Nevertheless, the Pancyprian Association of Psychotherapists has publicly voiced its opposition to the proposed exception of criminalising such treatments when the individual consents.
