Reservations from Islamic Action Front party to proposed constitutional amendment on women’s empowerment

5 October 2021: A recommendation to amend article 6 of the Constitution to guarantee women’s empowerment, proposed by the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System, was met with opposition from the Islamic Action Front party. The proposed constitutional amendment in question is the addition of a paragraph stating: “the state guarantees empowering women and supporting them to play an active role in building society in a way that guarantees equal opportunities on the basis of justice and fairness and protects them from all forms of violence and discrimination.” (rough translation from Arabic)
