On 30 June, at the end of Pride month, artist Mabel Matiz released a same-sex love song. He was subsequently targeted by a hateful campaign by internet users under the hashtag #HaddiniBilMabelMatiz (Mabel Matiz, know your place). Turkey’s principal media watchdog – the Radio and Television High Council (RTÜK) – ordered television channels not to show the music video.
