22 June 2021: Master’s student Ahmed Samir Santawy, undertaking academic work on women’s sexual and reproductive rights, was sentenced to four years in prison by a Misdemeanours Emergency State Security Court on charges of spreading “false news,” according to Amnesty International. He was interrogated about his academic research during the investigation.
