The Turkish government is planning to enforce a new judicial package that will require women to adopt their husband's surname after marriage, only allowing them to use their maiden name before their spouse's last name, according to Birgün daily. Despite a Constitutional Court ruling overturning restrictions, the draft of the 9th judicial package, proposed by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), does not permit women to solely use their maiden name after marriage.
