Turkey: Government bans International Women Day’s march and tear-gasses peaceful protesters

For the second straight year, the government issued a ban on marches for International Women’s Day in Turkey allegedly to protect national security. Thousands of women who had braved the ban were tear-gassed by the police after demonstrating in Istanbul for about two hours. Some protesters were detained.
