July 2021: The director of Nazra for Feminist Studies, Mozn Hassan, and the founder of the Center for Women’s Legal Assistance (CEWLA), Azza Soliman, were summoned as part of the “foreign funding case” on 29 and 15 July respectively. Egyptian organisations and defenders have been subjected to travel bans, asset freezes and judicial harassment for years as part of case no. 173 of 2011 over alleged charges of foreign funding.
Update: The investigative judge issued a decision to drop the case against Azza on 30 August. Mozn and her organisation Nazra had the case against them dropped on 21 October. However, they are still waiting for decision to be implemented, entailing the lifting of their travel bans and asset freezes.
