Italy : Under pressure, Education Ministry withdraws appointment of LGBTIQ+ advocate

After appointing, in December 2024, Anna Paola Concia (a lesbian feminist and LGBTIQ+ rights advocate) to implement a “relationships and affectivity education” programme in schools, Valditara, Ministry of Education faced fierce opposition by pro-family and pro-life opposition. The Pro Vita e Famiglia association, launched a petition asking Valditara to withdraw Paolo Concia’s appointment that reached 38,000 signatures. As a result, Valditara withdrew Paola Concia’s appointment.
