February 2021: Tunisian police used social media to target and smear LGBTQI persons online, including feminist and LGBTQI activist Rania Amdouni.[1] This occurred alongside police violence and arrests of LGBTQI persons during the protests beginning on 15 January.[2] Facebook pages shown to be linked to the Tunisian police published posts smearing LGBTQI individuals.[3] Police also used surveillance technology in the form of drones to target and film LGBTQI individuals participating in protests and the photos were then posted on social media.[4]
