23 July 2021: Police arrested a transgender refugee in what was referred to as an “illegal crackdown” on refugees.160 She was at risk of being deported to Syria, but public support helped lead to her release on 6 August.161 There have been other stories of LGBT refugees being forcibly returned to Syria, according to an article by the Guardian which recounted the story of a transgender woman whose friends believe she was deported and most likely killed in Syria.162
